The Leadership Alignment Reflection Guide
A Practical Guide To Help You Reconnect With What Matters Most And Lead With Intention.
There are seasons in our lives when we move from one responsibility to the next without coming up for air.
Work becomes busy. Priorities shift. New opportunities emerge. Unexpected challenges arise. Before we know it, our days become filled with meetings, deadlines, decisions, and responsibilities, leaving little time to simply pause.
And yet, those moments of pause are often exactly what we need.
Not because something is wrong, but because life has a way of pulling us in many different directions. Every now and then, it's worth checking in with ourselves to ask whether the way we're showing up today is still aligned with who we are, what matters most to us, and the kind of leader we want to be.
This reflection guide is simply an invitation to create that space.
A moment to step back from the busyness of everyday life. To celebrate what is going well. To notice where you may have drifted away from your intentions. And to thoughtfully realign before continuing forward.
Take your time as you move through these reflections. Approach them with honesty and curiosity. Sometimes the greatest value doesn't come from finding new answers—it comes from taking the time to ask ourselves the questions we haven't slowed down enough to consider.
1. Where Are You Today?
Before thinking about where you want to go, it's helpful to notice where you are today. Take this opportunity to check in with yourself and become more aware of how you've been showing up lately.
- Three words that describe how I feel today are...
- One thing I'm proud of recently is...
- One area I'd like to be more intentional about is...
Lately I've noticed that ...
2. What Matters Most Right Now?
Our priorities naturally shift throughout different seasons of life and work. Sometimes, however, the demands of everyday life can begin to crowd out the things that matter most. This is an opportunity to reconnect with what deserves your attention.
- Right now, what matters most to me is...
- Lately, I've been spending most of my time on...
- Something I wish I had more time or energy for is...
One priority I want to protect more intentionally is...
3. What's Helping You... and What's Holding You Back?
We all develop routines, habits, and ways of working that support us. Over time, some continue serving us, while others quietly begin getting in the way. This is an opportunity to notice both.
- One habit that's serving me well is...
- One habit I'd like to change is...
- Something I've been holding onto that I may need to let go of is...
One small change that would make a meaningful difference is...
3. How Are You Showing Up?
Leadership presence isn't about having all the answers or always feeling confident. It's about how we communicate, listen, respond, and create an environment where others can do their best work.
- One leadership strength I've been leaning into is...
- One behavior I'd like to demonstrate more often is...
- One quality I'd like people to experience more consistently from me is...
Going forward, I want my leadership to reflect more...
4. Who Is Part of Your Journey?
Leadership grows through relationships. Whether at work or in our personal lives, the people we invest in—and the relationships we nurture—often shape our greatest impact.
- Someone who has made a positive difference in my life recently is...
- One relationship I'd like to strengthen is...
- One conversation I don't want to keep postponing is...
One relationship I want to be more intentional about is...
6. Your Leadership Realignment
Realignment doesn't require a complete reinvention. Often, it begins with one intentional choice. As you look back on your reflections, consider what you want to carry forward.
- One thing I want to continue doing is...
- One thing I want to do differently is...
- The kind of leader I want to be is someone who...
Over the next few weeks, I will intentionally...
I want to remember that...
A Final Thought
Taking time to reflect is not something we do only when things feel off. It is a practice that helps us remain intentional, especially during seasons when life feels full, priorities compete for our attention, and it's easy to move from one responsibility to the next without stopping to check in with ourselves.
As you look back on your reflections, notice what stands out. Celebrate the areas where you already feel aligned, and approach any gaps with curiosity rather than judgment. Remember, this guide isn't about having all the answers. It's about creating the awareness that allows you to make intentional choices moving forward.
Leadership alignment is not a destination—it is an ongoing practice. It is found in the small decisions we make each day, the conversations we choose to have, the relationships we nurture, the boundaries we honor, and the ways we choose to show up for ourselves and for others.
I invite you to return to this guide every quarter. You may be surprised by how your perspectives evolve, how your priorities shift, and how much you've grown along the way.
Because sometimes the most powerful thing we can do is simply pause long enough to reconnect with who we are, what matters most, and the leader we choose to become.
